BEIJING — China has remained the world largest manufacturing hub for 12 consecutive years, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said on Monday.

Industry and Information Technology Minister Xiao Yaqing told a news conference that the added value of manufacturing in 2021 will increase by 9.8 percent year-on-year to 31.4 trillion yuan ($4.97 trillion), accounting for 27.4 percent of GDP.

Xiao said that the output value of high-tech manufacturing increased by 18.2% year-on-year, equipment manufacturing increased by 12.9%, and the pace of digitalization and green development accelerated.

At the same time, China currently has more than 4,700 national-level "little giant" enterprises or small enterprises in the early stages of development, focusing on new-generation information technology, high-end equipment manufacturing, new energy, new materials and other fields. , biomedicine and other high-end fields.

Xiao said that in terms of 5G development, by the end of last year
a total of 1.43 million 5G base stations had been built nationwide, and the number of mobile terminals connected to the network exceeded 520 million.

The minister said the ministry will further stimulate investment in the manufacturing sector, encourage companies to upgrade their manufacturing technology, and speed up the construction of 5G services and gigabit fiber optic networks.
