The air transportation industry hits a new high

The air transportation cargo industry in Mainland China has experienced amazing growth, and passenger travel remains in a sluggish state during the pandemic.

The global demand for medical supplies is strong in response to COVID-19, and e-commerce has grown exponentially, driving this growth, with more and more people working online, shopping and seeking entertainment.

The mainland is also one of the first regions in the world to rebound strongly from the pandemic.

Due to the massive distribution of COVID-19 vaccines around the world, the air cargo industry seems to be expected to gain further momentum this year.

Last year, the cargo volume of Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport in Guangdong Province increased by 9%, the fastest among the top five air cargo airports in the country. The facility is expected to surpass most of the top ten air cargo hubs in the world, the latter’s growth has slowed in the first half of last year.

At the same time, the cargo throughput of Hong Kong International Airport last year dropped by 6.99% compared to 2019.

The strong growth of Shenzhen Airport is bound to help it maintain its new advantages in cargo during the post-pandemic recovery period. The air transportation industry has opened eight new international cargo routes, which is the largest addition to such destinations in seven years.

With an annual cargo volume of 1.4 million tons, the airport ranked third in China last year and ranked among the top 30 in the world in 2019.

After the initial shock of the pandemic shook the aviation industry, it quickly seized the opportunity.

Zhang Jinlin, manager of the Airport International Cargo Center, said he was surprised by the dramatic changes in the business outlook last year.
